California Senate Bill 1215 has recently expanded its definition to include some of the NOA products. For context, this bill requires retailers and resellers to collect a recycling fee at the point of sale starting January 1, 2026.
Effective January 1, 2026, California SB 1215 expands the definition of covered electronic devices (CEDs) to include certain battery-embedded products.
The following Nintendo products are classified as CEDs:
- HAC-001, HAC-001(-01): Switch
- HEG-001: Switch OLED
- HAC-015(L), HAC-016(R): Switch Joy-Con
- HDH-001: Switch Lite
- HAC-043: Switch N64 Controller
- HAC-033(L), HAC-034(R): Switch NES Controller
- HAC-042: Switch SNES Controller
- HAC-045: SEGA Genesis Control Pad
- BEE-001: Switch 2
- BEE-012(L), BEE-014(R): Switch 2 Joy-Con
- BEE-008: Switch 2 Pro Controller
- BEE-021: Switch 2 GameCube Controller
These products are subject to a covered battery-embedded waste recycling fee when sold to California consumers, which must be collected at the point of sale.
