Ask the Developer Vol. 23: Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Part 2 Details Ahead of Sep 17 Release
Published by Nintendo on Sep 15th 2026
Nintendo has outlined new gameplay details for Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive scheduled to launch Thursday, September 17, 2026. The latest developer interview focuses on the game’s expanded exploration, with players able to move around Dagsion, traverse the world map, recruit allies, develop characters and explore dungeons across the continent of Dagda.
The game features four protagonists with distinct progression paths and gameplay systems developed in collaboration with Intelligent Systems. Cai can capture and care for rideable animals and work fields, Dietrich can learn and enhance combat arts by defeating enemies, Theodora can recruit soldiers and deploy battalions, and Leda can perform in taverns to earn rewards or uncover information. Players can choose any starting protagonist, switch paths during the story and proceed without irreversible route decisions, with some unlocked map locations carrying over between paths.
Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave also includes a large recruitable cast, clan-based parties, scouting in Dagsion and a flexible class system similar to Fire Emblem: Three Houses, with visible character growth rates appearing for the first time in the series. New classes include the ornius rider, an ancient chariot class and the elephant rider, while combat introduces character-specific Blaze Arts and at least one firearm-like weapon. Progress is consolidated through a single-save structure that preserves chapter-start data for each protagonist, allows players to replay chapters, maps, cutscenes or battles, and later merges character development across routes and repeated playthroughs.
